1. Module overview

The Calculator module adds a small calculator that is always within reach in Dolibarr. It takes the form of a round floating button, placed by default at the bottom right of the screen, which you can move wherever you like. A single click opens a colourful calculation panel; there you perform your additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions and percentages, then close it again. It is the handy tool for checking a total, working out a discount or a VAT amount without leaving the page you are working on. Its distinctive feature: it adds no menu and changes nothing in your data. The button simply appears on top of the usual Dolibarr interface, on every page (customer records, invoices, quotations, products, bank, etc.), and disappears as soon as you close it. It is a display utility, designed to save time day to day, that touches neither your third parties, nor your invoices, nor your accounting.

  • A round floating button, visible on every page in Dolibarr
  • Movable with the mouse or finger, its position is remembered on the workstation
  • A full calculator on click: digits, decimal point, four operations, percentage, sign change
  • Usable with the mouse or directly from the keyboard
  • No menu added, no setting to configure, no business data modified
  • Polished interface, suited to mobile (touch)

2. The floating button, always within reach

The calculator is embodied by a round, colourful button that stays visible at all times, whatever page is open in Dolibarr.

  • The button appears by default at the bottom right of the screen, in the foreground of the interface.
  • It moves freely: you drag it (mouse or finger) to the corner or spot that suits you best.
  • Its chosen position is kept by the browser: you find it again on your next visit on the same workstation.
  • It stays inside the screen and repositions itself automatically if the window is resized.
  • It works just as well with the mouse on a computer as by touch on a tablet or smartphone.

3. Opening and closing the calculator

The calculation panel opens and closes with a single gesture, without ever reloading the page or losing your work in progress.

  • A click on the button opens the calculator panel; another click closes it.
  • The panel positions itself automatically just above the button (or below it if there is not enough room at the top).
  • You can also close it with the small cross at the top of the panel or with the Esc key on the keyboard.
  • Moving the button does not open the calculator by mistake: dragging and clicking are clearly distinguished.

4. Doing your basic calculations

The calculator covers the everyday operations, with a clear display of the calculation in progress and of the result.

  • Entry of digits from 0 to 9 and of the decimal point (comma) for numbers with decimals.
  • The four operations: addition (+), subtraction (−), multiplication (×) and division (÷).
  • Chained calculations: you can enter several operations in a row without starting over.
  • The result is obtained with the equals key (=); the operation in progress is shown above the result.
  • In the event of a division by zero, the calculator displays 'Error' and cleanly restarts for the next calculation.

5. The handy keys

Beyond the four operations, a few keys make correcting and commercial calculations easier.

  • C key: clears everything and resets the calculator to zero.
  • Backspace key: removes the last digit entered to correct a typing mistake.
  • Percentage key (%): divides the displayed value by 100, useful for a discount or a rate.
  • Plus/minus key (±): changes the sign of the displayed number (positive / negative).
  • The displayed number is limited to stay readable, without overflowing on the screen.

6. Using the keyboard

When the calculator is open, you can do everything from the keyboard, without taking your hands off typing.

  • The number keys on the keyboard enter the numbers directly.
  • The full stop or comma adds the decimal.
  • The + − * / keys trigger the corresponding operations.
  • The Enter key (or =) computes the result.
  • The Backspace key corrects, the Esc key closes the calculator.
  • Keyboard entry does not interfere with Dolibarr's form fields: it acts only when the calculation panel is open.

7. Activation, without any configuration

The module is designed to be operational immediately once activated, with no settings page to fill in.

  • Activation from Dolibarr's native module management (Setup > Modules/Applications), like any module.
  • As soon as it is activated, the floating button appears for users on all pages.
  • No setting, no option to configure: the module works as is.
  • To remove it, simply deactivate the module; the button disappears, without leaving any trace in the data.

8. Links with Dolibarr

The module does not work in isolation: it integrates with the native building blocks of Dolibarr.

  • All Dolibarr pages : The button is displayed over the interface on all native screens (third-party records, invoices, quotations, orders, products, bank, accounting, etc.), which lets you calculate right next to any document without changing page.
  • Native module management : The calculator is activated and deactivated from Dolibarr's standard module manager, in the same way as the official modules; it belongs to the technical family and adds neither a menu nor a tab.
  • No business data affected : The module reads and writes no Dolibarr data: no third parties, no invoices, no accounting entries. It is a simple display utility, with no impact on data, accounting or compliance (no interference with documents or journals).
  • Storage local to the workstation : Only the position chosen for the button is kept, in the browser of the user's workstation; nothing is saved in the Dolibarr database.
